Reckoning & Reorienting

Radical means going to the roots. And roots, by their nature, do not act alone, they form relationships. As they grow, they turn away from what is toxic and toward what is nourishing.

This year’s summit invites participants to walk in both worlds: to reckon honestly with what is coming apart in the-world-as-it-is-now, while exploring the practices already stabilizing and readying rural communities for profound transformations: the-world-as-it-could-be.

Reckoning

Many of us sense that the old maps no longer match the terrain. We are facing real pressures: affordability, housing shortages, childcare gaps, education strain, fragile funding systems, ecological & social breakdown, and more.

These forces are reshaping daily life in rural places right now.

Reckoning means naming them clearly and opening space for honest exploration of the upstream drivers of many of the intersecting challenges of our time.

Reorienting

Rural communities are not standing still. The summit provides a rare opportunity to gather as neighbors, artists, organizers, journalists, farmers, public servants, and practitioners across many sectors. Like roots, we will form and deepen relationships.

In our sessions, we will encounter communities practicing new (sometimes old) patterns of cooperation and care. We will explore models and tools for stabilizing local systems through municipal resilience efforts, strong local journalism, food systems, shared governance, land stewardship, and more.

Together, we can turn away from what no longer serves us, and toward what brings true shared vitality.

FAQs

  1. Which ticket type should I choose? Radically Rural operates on a pay-what-you-can model. All tickets provide the same access. Choose what feels right for you.
  2. What if I’m only attending one day? Choose whichever ticket tier feels right to you. If you’d like some guidance, we value the entire experience at $225, so $75 would value ⅓ of that.
  3. Do I need to buy a separate ticket for CONNECT? No. All pay-what-you-can tickets include access to the entire summit and CONNECT.
  4. How do I get to Keene? We recommend flying into one of the following airports and arranging a car pool in the event app or renting a car: Boston Logan International Airport (most options and affordability), Manchester-Boston Regional Airport (closest to Keene), Bradley International Airport (balances cost and convenience).
  5. Where should I stay? Book with our group rate at the Courtyard by Marriott. Other options within walking distance of downtown Keene include: Burrell House Inn, Carriage Barn Inn, and Fairfield Inn & Suites.
  6. Where can I park? We highly recommend that folks staying in downtown Keene walk to sessions. If that is not an option, you can use this interactive map to find paid city parking. There are also limited free parking options.
  7. What should I pack? We recommend packing walking shoes, RR t-shirts/bags from previous attendance, water bottle, business cards, and exercise clothes if you plan to participate in morning activities like yoga or our group run!
  8. I want to spend some time exploring the region, what should I do? We have amazing local restaurants, arts venues, rail trails, and more. Check out sample itineraries and more at Visit Monadnock NH.
